Choosing an Electronic Lock

An electronic lock determines how the door is operated and what type of preparation the opening requires, but the visible hardware still needs to suit the door and the surrounding architecture.

We have a collection of wireless systems, a keypad configuration, and several ways to pair the electronic mechanism with its bronze trim and handles. If you are looking for a smart lock to match a door’s fixtures, the first step is to identify the lock system that suits the door, then select the compatible hardware around it.

Wireless Locks

The Level Bolt places Level technology inside the deadbolt pocket, so the electronic components are concealed behind the bronze hardware trim. It is controlled through the Level Home app, and Level provides support for its technology.

Rocky Mountain Hardware pairs the Level system with select collections and a choice of handles in our standard finish range.

The Smart Entry mortise lock uses Accurate Lock & Hardware technology inside a mortise pocket. The concealed system can be paired with any Rocky Mountain Hardware collection, handle, and finish. Its Matter configuration works through Apple Home or Amazon Alexa and requires a compatible hub. Activation requires an account and a one-time setup fee.

The Bluetooth INOX Smart Dead Bolt uses INOX technology with the INOX Smart App and Access Management Portal. Its access system supports smartphone control, RFID, passcodes, and mechanical key override, with the portal designed for managing access across a property portfolio. INOX also provides its own support for the app and programming.

These electronic locks can be specified with Rocky Mountain Hardware entry door sets when the opening calls for a coordinated entry configuration.

Keypad Entry

A keypad entry system provides code-secured keyless entry, so access does not depend on carrying a phone. The keypad is a separate component that works with an electronic mortise lock or electronic strike and uses 12- or 24-volt DC power. It is not compatible with Level Bolt or Smart Entry, and is specified separately from the door hardware.

Keypad entry listings available in our catalog are Rectangular, Stepped, Metro, Arched, and Curved escutcheons. The keypad itself is a separate electronic component, so the bronze specification applies to the escutcheon and other hardware you select around it.

Choosing Bronze Trim, Handles, and Finishes

The electronic lock you choose sets the available bronze hardware combinations for the door. Once you know how the door will operate, you can select the escutcheon, handle, and finish that suit the opening and tie the electronic hardware into the rest of the project.

The Smart Entry mortise lock has the broadest hardware selection, with any Rocky Mountain Hardware collection, handle, and finish available for the configuration. Level Bolt works with select collections and any handle in 12 standard finishes. INOX is available in specified configurations, with its entry sets available with any handle in the listed finish options.

For Level Bolt entry combinations, Crystal and Glass knobs K150, K151, K155, and K156 are available at an additional charge and are not included in the standard handle price.

Our door handles offer a range of shapes and styles to coordinate the electronic lock with the other hardware on the door.

Specifying and Fitting

Door preparation and power requirements vary by electronic lock, so the lock should be selected first and the door preparation specified for that particular product. The figures below apply to the individual products listed and should not be treated as category-wide requirements.

Product Minimum Door Thickness Backsets Power
Level Bolt 1 3/8″ 2 3/8″ or 2 3/4″ Battery only
Smart Entry mortise 1 3/4″ 2 1/2″ or 2 3/4″ Battery, optional hardwiring
INOX 1 3/4″ 2 3/8″ or 2 3/4″ Battery only
Keypad Separate component Depends on paired lock or strike 12 or 24 volts

Level Bolt requires a minimum 1 3/8-inch door thickness, and a thicker trim may be needed on thinner doors. Check the selected escutcheon against the door preparation requirements before ordering to confirm that the configuration is compatible. Moreover, review the relevant product specification and door-preparation documents before placing an order.

Solid Bronze Trim and Hand-Applied Finishes

The bronze portion of these electronic locks is the visible architectural hardware: the escutcheon, handle, and related trim. The selected system combines this bronze hardware with an electronic module and lock mechanism from Level, Accurate, or INOX.

We apply bronze finishes by hand, giving the visible hardware the same finish options used across our door hardware.

The electronic lock hardware in our listings is available in silicon bronze and white bronze, with brushed, light, medium, dark, and high-polished finish options represented across the available configurations.

Why Choose Rocky Mountain Hardware Electronic Door Locks

Rocky Mountain Hardware gives you a way to specify electronic access with architectural door hardware using the same material and design language as the rest of the project. The visible hardware is made up of art-grade bronze certified to contain at least 90% post-consumer recycled content.

Residential warranties cover bronze material and workmanship for life, and internal mechanisms are covered for 50 years. Electronic components supplied by Level, Accurate, or INOX follow their applicable manufacturer terms; Level has a two-year limited warranty for its products, and INOX states a one-year warranty for its electronic components.

Contact a Rocky Mountain Hardware dealer to confirm the right lock configuration, select your bronze hardware, and place an order.
