Bronze is a metal alloy used to cast decorative and functional objects for centuries. Rocky Mountain Hardware perpetuates this history and uses art-grade bronze to create a wide variety of bronze handles. In most cases, bronze handles are the portion of the set you grab to pull or rotate. Bronze handles come in various types, including grips, levers, knobs, or ring pulls. You can also use a bronze handle to open or close a door. Bronze handles can be found on all types of doors, including exterior doors of residential and commercial buildings, internal doors, and cabinet doors. When you select a bronze handle, you can choose from a combination of bronze pulls and knobs in various shapes, styles, and finishes. Â
Choosing Bronze Handles Â
Rocky Mountain Hardware’s extensive collection of bronze handles offers an array of grips and pulls for every space. A bronze handle can be either a knob or a lever. Bronze handle knobs are generally round, though they are also available in other shapes like squares, ovals, or more organic shapes. In contrast, levers open a door when you push in a downward direction. Bronze cabinet handles are available as pulls or knobs and can complement bronze appliance pulls.Â
Bronze Cabinet HandlesÂ
You will want to utilize a combination of bronze pulls and knobs in most spaces. The choices you make can impact your space’s overall look and functionality. Bronze pull handles are available in various sizes, shapes, and finishes. When you choose bronze knobs for the room, consider choosing a knob that matches or compliments your pulls. You’ll find a selection of bronze knobs in different shapes, including round, square, and oval knobs. Complement your bronze handles with custom, handmade appliance pulls. Bronze appliance pulls are proportionally sized to appliances. They are, therefore, larger than other handles, making opening and closing your appliance easier and more luxurious.Â
Bronze Grip and Pull HandlesÂ
When choosing bronze handles, you can select both grips and pulls in several different lengths, making it easy to find the right size for any space. You’ll want to choose something that is both visually proportionate and a size that will allow you to open and close the area comfortably. Escutcheons are decorative plates at the base of the bronze grip or pull handles. Escutcheons are an excellent way to customize the final look of a space and add interest and texture to your bronze handles. To improve the functionality of a bronze handle, consider using an offset grip. This bronze handle allows more space for your hand when opening and closing. These types of bronze handles are ideal for tight spaces or simply as a way to make handles more accessible.Â
Bronze Lever Handles
A bronze lever handle is one of the most popular types of door hardware for homes. In contrast to knobs, a lever is a straight or curved bronze handle that sits perpendicular to a door. It’s a common choice because its shape makes it easier to open the door. There are four types of lever-style handles. You can use entry lever sets on exterior doors or any doors that need to be securely locked. These types of bronze handle sets lock with a key on the exterior and often have a turn piece on the interior side of the door. If you choose a passage lever bronze handle, you will not have a locking mechanism. Therefore, they are best for closets, hallways, and doorways. Privacy levers have a turn piece locking mechanism on the interior side of the door for privacy but do not offer keyed access on the exterior. However, they don’t provide the security that an exterior keyed lock offers. Privacy lever locks have a push pin to control the lock mechanism in the rosette. Finally, dummy levers have no internal latching mechanisms. They are used to swing the door open and closed and are best for closets and pantries.
Bronze Knob HandlesÂ
When choosing bronze handles, you want to consider various styles, each with its unique function. Half dummy bronze handles are highly decorative. They do not have a latch and cannot be used to lock a door. This bronze handle does not need to be rotated or turned when opening or closing a door. You pull on the bronze handle to open the door. Ideally, half-dummy bronze handles are used on double doors that close side-by-side, such as on cabinets and closet doors. Passage door knobs are non-locking bronze handles that turn freely without a key. Bronze passage door knob handles have a latch, and you need to turn the handle to open the door. If you choose this type of bronze handle, you will see a knob on both sides of the door. These bronze handles are best for hallways, closets, and rooms where privacy is not required. Privacy door knobs are a type of bronze handle that can be locked using a push pin on the inside. This type of bronze handle is used for privacy but does not provide the security of a bronze handle with a key. For that reason, they are best for bathrooms and bedrooms.  Finally, bronze entry knob sets have a keyed lock on the exterior side of the set and a turn piece on the inside. These bronze handle sets are ideal for front doors or back doors.Â
Bronze Ring Pull Handles
Bronze ring pull handles are similar to a half dummy knob. These bronze handles are decorative, with no latch or locking mechanism. When used on a dummy set, bronze ring pull handles do not have to be rotated or turned when opening or closing a door. You pull on the bronze handle to open the door.Â
Bronze Handle FinishesÂ
We cast in two bronze alloys at Rocky Mountain Hardware – a silicon bronze with gold undertones and a white bronze with silver and pewter undertones. Over time, each piece will develop a uniquely beautiful patina. This finish develops as the product ages and is exposed to touch, climate, and weather. You’ll see that the color of the bronze finish will change in color, sheen, and texture.
